Canadian Civil is a small organization run by content creators, not a company with a legal department. This page is not here to catch anyone out. It is here to say plainly how a few things work: what happens if you come to one of our events, how memberships and billing work, and what you can do with what we publish.

Live and in-person events

Filming is most of the point of our live and in-person events. What happens on the day becomes videos, podcasts and posts.

By attending any live or in-person event associated with Canadian Civil, you understand that you may be filmed, recorded or photographed, and you give us permission to use that footage and photography in our published work and in promoting it, with no payment and no further paperwork.

If you would rather not appear, that is completely fine, but you have to tell us. Ask any of the creators or crew at the event, or get in touch before it, and we will blur you or leave you out. We have no way of knowing who wants to be left out, so the request has to come from you.

Memberships and billing

Paid memberships are billed in Canadian dollars through Stripe. Stripe takes the payment, so your card details go to them and never to us. We can see that you paid and which tier you are on, not your card number.

A membership renews automatically at the end of each billing period, at the price you signed up at, until you cancel it.

You can cancel at any time from your account page. Cancelling switches off the automatic renewal. It does not cut you off on the spot: your membership stays active for the rest of the period you have already paid for, and ends on the date shown on your account page. If you change your mind before that date, you can switch renewal back on and carry on as though nothing happened.

We do not automatically refund the unused part of a period. If something has gone wrong, tell us and we will sort it out.

Your account

Signing in works by email. We send you a link, you click it, and you are in, so there is no password to lose. One account per person, and keeping access to your email address is what keeps the account yours.

What we publish

The videos, writing, photography and podcasts here belong to the creators who made them. You are very welcome to share links, quote us, and embed our videos. Republishing whole pieces as your own, or selling them on, is not okay.

Members-only material, including private podcast feeds, is for you personally. Those feed links are tied to your account, so please do not pass them around.

Changes to these terms

This page will change as the organization does, and the date at the bottom says when it last did. If a change matters to members, we will say so in a post or an email rather than quietly editing the page.
